US Brig Niagara

·
Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry's 2nd Flagship during the Battle of Lake Erie
during the War of 1812

The US Brig Niagara was the sister ship to the US Brig Lawrence

Both ships carried eighteen 32 pound Carronades and two 12 pound long guns in the bows

She carried a crew of 155 officers and men

At the beginning of the Battle of Lake Erie, 10 September, 1813, Commodore Perry commanded his squadron of nine   ships from the Lawrence

During the battle, the Lawrence was so badly damaged by British fire that  Perry was forced to shift his flag to the Niagara to continue  and eventually win the fight

The ship has been replicated and berthed at the Erie, PA
