- She was renamed The Golden Hind on 20 August, 1578, during the circumnavigation in honor of Drake’s benefactor and patron, Sir Christopher Hatton
- Drake used The Golden Hind to capture several Spanish ships with the “blessing” of Queen Elizabeth
- The Spanish considered Drake a pirate; England considered him a "privateer"
- The ship was retired in 1580, and by order of Queen Elizabeth, was made into a “museum ship” from 1580 till 1650
- She was so badly rotten away by 1650 that she was broken up
- A replica of her exists today on the Thames in London
