US Brig Lawrence - 1843

Picture

Brig of War and Merchantman

The US Brig Lawrence - 1843 is not to be confused with the brig of the same name built in 1813 which was the sister ship of the US Brig Niagara and fought in the Battle of Late Erie.
The Brig was launched in Baltimore MD on 1 August 1843.
She carried 10 guns and a crew of about 80.
She cruised the Caribbean for the next two years.
She cruised the Gulf Coast providing security for American shipping.
When hostilities started in Texas in 1846, she cruised on a blockade station off the coast of Mexico.
Her usefulness was hampered by her deep draft and limited cargo capacity.
She was decommissioned and  in late 1846, to become a merchant ship.
This model was custom built for Spectrum of Solutions in Midland, TX.
